"November"

“November” Dried Colorado weeds. Set of 3 Large Plexiglass 3/4 inch thick 36” x 48” each / Total hanging space 112” x  48” /  Mounted with 2” Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Glass Standoffs - Art Hangs Out 3” from Wall Painted with Metallic Pigment, and Acrylic Paint “November” is the title of this Plexiglas Triptych and with good reason.  If you live in Colorado like I have for my entire life, the color of summer has disappeared, and what remains tends to be a monochromatic landscape of hidden beauty in brown and golden hues. The warm background color that is represented here is painted on the back side of this ¾” solid Plexiglas, while the front is hidden (because Plexiglas comes with its surface covered with a large opaque adhesive covering to prevent scratching and damage).   The colors in “November” are made with metallic pigments so there is a tendency to feel like you are looking at a mirage or at the very least, art that seems to move with the reflectiv

"Aspen Whispers"

"Aspen Whispers" Large Box Frame Canvas / 72”W x 48”H x 2”D Sheets of Handmade Paper-Gelled onto-and Painted on Canvas. Adorned with Acrylic Paint and Metallic Pigments SOLD “Aspen Whispers” is my abstract interpretation of the experience of walking in the Colorado forest-in an aspen grove in particular. There’s the emotional side, which for me is marveling at the awe-inspiring beauty of nature. Then there’s the tactile side, which is an overwhelming need touch everything. The bark of the trees, the yellow leaves and the need to just sit in that space as long as you can.  Many artists are inspired by nature and create amazing pieces ranging from sublime realism to a more abstract interpretation but with a recognizable subject matter.  I chose to go the more abstract route and have done versions of the same rendition of aspens painted on handmade paper more than 8 times with different large-scale works. This was my first piece in the “Aspen Whi

"Aspen Reflections"

“Aspen Refections” 56W x 80H x 3D / 1/2” Thick Plexiglass / SOLD (Special orders only-custom artwork) Painted on the back, adorned with copper gold and silver leafing, with pearl and champagne dusting. I wanted to share this piece because of the snow that fell the other day. Colorado weather with all of the leaves changing colors and snow falling reminded me of this piece I made called “Aspen Reflections.” And in this piece copper gold and silver leafing are falling like snow creating hills in the background. The pictures I have really don’t do it justice but I want to share anyway. The entire piece is made with material that reflects light.

Autumn Merlot

"Autumn's Merlot"   When I was creating this piece I was indulging in a fantastic Merlot, and with every piece I create I use what I see or feel as inspiration.  When you look at the artwork and see the swirling copper, silver or gold flakes, does it remind you of what you see at the bottom of the wine bottle (called tartaric acid crystals-more commonly known as wine crystals)? Because that is exactly what I saw and it helped inspire some decisions made about the artwork-along with my favorite season, which also happened to be the time of year I made it.  Each leaf is its own unique piece of art in its single form, receiving loving attention to detail without being too meticulous, lending a more abstract feel.  However, each leaf also gets special attention with it’s own aesthetics, color placement, and design.  Colors include burgundy, wine, merlot, burnt orange, and champagne hues.  I like to think you can even “taste the colors”-especially after you read my ar

Eternal Solstice

Eternal Solstice  / K.Champion Art / SOLD "Eternal Solstice" SOLD Kristi L. Champion Artistic Visions and Design / Kristi L. Haynes / K.Champion Art 3' x 5' ft / 36" x 60" inch Oil on Canvas, Gold, Silver and Copper Leafing / Gallery Wrap Eternal Solstice  - SOLD This bold large-scale Oil on Canvas is a ballet of color and activity. The deep maroons, reds, gold’s, deep greens and the creamy whites dance in the hyperactive shapes and lines giving the viewer believable motion on canvas. This oil like so many of my painting leans toward very warm tones. I love playing with colors and how they react with the ones next to them. Along side that I really love the reflective colors that continually make an appearance in my art. The use of gold, copper and silver leafing helps in the waxing and waning of light that constantly reflects off the surface. It's adorned with texture, shapes and the flourishing color making the balance of harmony come to

Curvaceous Nights

Curvaceous Nights / K.Champion Curvaceous Nights: Oil on Canvas 48 x 72 In this large-scale oil painting I pull from my own experience with love and lust. Being truly in love and expressing it physically as well as mentally is the most beautiful experience you can have. Some people search for this their entire life and fail to find it. I have been “lucky in love.” Most people think of red and warm tones when they think of lust and passion, especially physical attraction. With my Oil on Canvas pieces I drown in my experience completely submitting to them in a helpless state of promised love. In reference to “Lucky in Love” and “drowning” you can better understand my color palette. The blues and greens are the dominate color choice here. The shapes and “curvaceous” lines are truly my own visions I can see and feel. There is a blooming, push and pull of mind and body. The energy is a cool flame smoldering underneath the closed eyes of my own person. My beloved husband, being with h

Midnight Flower

Midnight Flower / K.Champion Art Midnight Flower: Large-scale canvas done in a multimedia fashion with molding clay allowing the flower to become more 3D. It seems as thought the flower is rising from a pool of blue and purple reaching for the moon rays of the night. Dark in mood and color the essence of harmony and balance is still present with the strong composition and feminine lines of movement. It has been described to me to be sexy and alluring in it’s powerful and appealing state. There is always a dark side to seduction, but beautiful none the less.
