“November” is the title of this Plexiglas Triptych and with good reason. If you live in Colorado like I have for my entire life, the color of summer has disappeared, and what remains tends to be a monochromatic landscape of hidden beauty in brown and golden hues. The warm background color that is represented here is painted on the back side of this ¾” solid Plexiglas, while the front is hidden (because Plexiglas comes with its surface covered with a large opaque adhesive covering to prevent scratching and damage).
The colors in “November” are made with metallic pigments so there is a tendency to feel like you are looking at a mirage or at the very least, art that seems to move with the reflective surface of the Plexiglas. The front of the Plexiglas is painted with mat black and metallic paint giving it a highlighted silhouette. Because the glass is so thick the black paint on the front creates a shadow depending on the source of light, lending a visual movement and texture creating a composition that appears ‘alive.’
I love this triptych “November,” and even though the small details hidden from me in the beginning were seemingly out of my control due to the process of painting backwards, I am thrilled with the results. And as such, it was a delightful surprise to see the results of my vision once the opaque adhesive covering was removed!
